That’s right, this week I’ll be promoting a show, as you may already know Brisbane has a banger show lined up for you next weekend on the 30th of June. Leave This Town is a pop punk festival being held right here in our very own city.
I have been hearing so much about this festival, and I have gotten pretty pumped about it. I haven’t been to a show in a while and when it is something different that only comes around every now and again, I get pumped, considering the music scene is nearly dead to the days.
Leave This Town is going to be massive with 11 different bands! The lineup is banger, you have the boys and girls from Stateside, Shorelines, Skies Collide, Joy in Motion, HOMEFRONT, Chasing Velvet, Days Like These, Hard Luck Champions, What’s Left Is Yours, Down & Out, and last but not least Cheesy Crust, yes there is a legitimate band called Cheesy Crust. Not only is there a band called Cheesy Crust, buuuuuuuuuuuut you get free, yes you read that correctly, free pizza ALL NIGHT!
If you haven’t heard any of the above bands then I seriously don’t know what you are doing wrong in your life, but something, something you are doing isn’t right. All of these bands have dropped huge hits and albums for years and to join them all in the one festival is going to be a great show. The thing about planning shows and a line up is that you can’t just pick and choose bands, you have to have the same genre but with differences, you need bands that are going to go together, for instance you can’t have Paramore on the same lineup as Black Tongue, it just doesn’t work.
So you are probably wandering how much all of this is going to cost and where it’s being held, well my good friends, this show is only $20, yes that’s all to see 11 bands! It’s being held at one of the last all ages venue Brisbane has, the AHEPA Hall, Boundary street West End. Leave this Town is an all ages show which we have not had for a while now and it’s so good to see an all ages show that has a lot of interest. With APEHA Hall being one of the very few remaining all ages venues, it is hard to be able to hold a show of this scale and possible large crowd numbers as you have to take into consideration the size of the venue its self. APEHA hall isn’t very big as is, being only able to hold a capacity of around 400 people.
Stateside is a well-known pop-punk band that’s been around since I was in high school. They’ve got some absolute bangers that hit you riiiiiiggggghhhhhhttttt in the feels. They also have songs that will make you burst your speakers and lose your voice. Their versatility in their emotional connections to the songs means that they have a song for every occasion. Breakup? Your Eyes. Pump up? This is war. Unfortunately, they talk all their old albums, like my personal favourite Burning Bridges, off Spotify, otherwise I’d have a lot more to say about their music. Seeing these guys live is amazing, they’re all so passionate about their work and it’s amazing to watch so I definitely suggested coming down to see these guys play on the 30th. If that doesn’t convince you, maybe Shorelines will.
Shorelines are another pop-punk band from our lovely city. When looking them up on Spotify you’ll find a killer cover of Sorry Not Sorry, originally sung by Demi Lovato. Their EP ‘New Heights’ is an upbeat, fun three songs, with one slower one in there to mix things up a little. Just listening to a few of their songs I know they are definitely going to be added to my daily playlist. With influences such as All Time Low and Neck Deep, you can be sure that these just are going to knock your socks off at Leave This Town. If I STILL haven’t convinced you that this show is going to be amazing, let’s look at Joy In Motion.
Joy In Motion is yet ANOTHER pop-rock group from Brisbane. With their song Off By Heart having its release show on the 23rd, this is the perfect chance to see them along with ten other amazing bands for only $20 (and I want to keep mentioning the free pizza, because FREE PIZZA). These guys are a lot more chill than the other two bands, but their music is still amazing, and I would definitely use it for a chill night in with some good beats. Recently they just shared a memory of their first ever show as a band. They’ve also recently been in Toasted TV performing, an acoustic version of Foolish Boy.
Soooo, if I haven’t already convinced you that this is a show you should definitely attend, then there’s one more bonus. Us. Myself and our editor-in-chief, Caitlyn (more commonly referred to as Kat), will be there supporting all our local artists that will be on show that night. Come down, say hi, and tell us what you think of both the blog and the event. We hope to see you guys there supporting our locals too.
